Our Design entry for Chandigarh Unbuilt competition by Archasm

Image
Recently me and my friend Ar. Uma Chakravarthy participated in a design competition conducted by ARCHASM. The competition was about giving ideas to build the museum of knowledge which great Architect Le Corbousier had envisaged but was not built. We as a team did some research and some how found time to send our entry. Though unfortunately we were not even shortlisted for the top 50 (out of 308 entries) we had a very good experience about discussing designs done by corbusier and his principles. This gave us an opportunity to learn more about the architect and in due course we had some brain storming sessions discussing the same. Overall a big learning experience. Thought of sharing the sheets and some views. I would like to thank the team at ARCHASM for having conducted a wonderful competition and giving an opportunity to put our brains to read and think about one of the greatest architect the planet has seen. Hope you all like the work. Suggestions welcome. Thank you...

THE CONCEPT OF WORLD HERITAGE SITE AND CHENNAI’S BEST BET TOWARDS ACHIEVING ONE OF ITS OWN Chennai our city, with its rich history (a minimum of 350 yrs), lacks in one aspect other Indian metropolitan cities like New Delhi and Mumbai don’t. What is it? Any guesses? It is a World Heritage Site (WHS). New Delhi can boast of a handful of WHS’s like the Qutb complex, Humayuns tomb etc. Mumbai to its credit has the Chatthrapathi Sivaji Terminus (Victoria Terminus). Is this because (a)      We don’t have anything of that sort to be given the World heritage status or (b)       We don’t appreciate the heritage we have and take steps to achieve the World Heritage Status to a site within our city. Going by the history of Chennai, it cannot be option (a), it’s always option (b). To prove my point lets understand certain things. What is heritage ? - “Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to fut...

INTERIOR DESIGN FOR Mr. PRASANNA’S RESIDENCE @ CHENNAI The Project Brief: The Client, Mr. Prasanna approached me to do interiors for his residence at Vanagaram in Chennai. He had bought a 2500 sq. ft. house in a row house development. The majority of houses were 1250 sq.ft. He bought 2 houses and combined it to form a single house of around 2500sq. ft. He had a preconceived idea of having a double ht. Living and all the rooms and their placements were already decided construction was in full swing when the project landed in my hands. Hence there was not much scope for change in the overall plan but to deal with the available spaces. Adding to these limitations were the other constraints given by the client. One of the important things clearly spelt out by the client was that he did not want any ornamentation in the interiors and also use of wooden finish was prohibited. This was my first project in which I did interior design on my own and most of it was implemented under my su...
